I've heard of the race but not of the group, until today. Check out the article from the Dispatch (attached), and also check out some history about Marshall W. "Major" Taylor, an African American bicycle racing champion more than 100 years ago.

Columbus Trails and Greenways
Quote:
This site came about because, after discovering the trail system--in point of fact, the Olentangy Trail, I was quite enthusiastic about it to friends, many of whom had also moved in from out of town. I had a difficult time interesting them in--indeed, there were local people who were unaware of the trails--or who avoided them due to misinformation. So I took a few digital pictures and wrote a brief description and cobbled up a primitive map and put up the first version of this site. To my surprise, I began to get e-mail from people I did know who were interesting in the trails. From that point the site has grown to its current configuration.

The intent is to detail the experience of the various trails through aerial maps, pictures and descriptions to a point where anyone can come away with a fair perception of what running or cycling or walking or strolling each of them (and they are different--and change several times themselves over their course) so as to encourage visitors to get out and use them and, ultimately, to support their construction and upkeep.

The site is organize primarily by trail. The detail runs from north to south in most cases. The trails are broken into sections--my arbitrary choice though I feel that each section has a distinct character. There is no naming convention--I kind of make the names up. There are also pages which consolidate both the aerial maps and photo pages for easier access. And some other stuff which I've put up along the way. I hope it helps folks use and enjoy our trails system.

WHO ARE WE?
WCRS is one of two stations sharing 102.1 FM. Each is owned by a local non-profit organization:
WCRS - a project of Simply Living, currently broadcasting 3-8pm daily.
WCRX - a project of Bexley Public Radio Foundation, broadcasting 11am - 1pm M-F

WHY TWO FREQUENCIES?
The FCC licenses us as "low power" stations, meaning we broadcast at a low wattage. People in northeastern Franklin County are the most likely to hear us on 102.1 FM. If you live elsewhere, tune into 98.3 FM, a "translator" station owned by the Columbus Institute for Contemporary Journalism. 98.3 broadcasts with more wattage and is more centrally located. (By FCC rules a translator station cannot originate programming. It can only rebroadcast another station.) See Reception Tips for more information about receiving our station.

WHAT IS OUR PROGRAM FORMAT?

We are currently broadcasting programming available through the Pacifica Network. In the future, our two stations will expand our broadcast hours to 24/7. We have already begun to offer the following locally-produced programs. See the schedule for show times:

Your Music: An 'Eclectic Mix' of music from around the world including many self-published works by non-commercial artists. Mondays @ 6. Hosted by Evan Davis.

On This Day in History: A daily 2.5 minute short of historic events on each calendar day about under-reported facts and perspectives by Evan Davis.

Simply Living Healthy: A weekly program featuring interviews with local health care providers highlighting wellness & healing resources Tuesdays@6 by Kris Keller.

Cranksters: Columbus' weekly bicycle radio showcase featuring a bike of the week award, news and policies, ride and race reports as well as featured guests discussing cycling topics from repair and safety to fashion and culture. Fridays @6 hosted by Zach Henkel.

Conscious Voices: Weekly program featuring interviews and dialog about news and events from global to local as well as culture, art, and involvement. Fridays @ 4 hosted by Cynthia Rosi.
