Columbus's first women's ride - every Sunday at 8 PM. Meet and end at Buckeye Donuts (corner of E. 18th & N. High).

Our first ride was last week and it was truly awesome! We had about 12 women and I hope to see even more this week!! We aim for between 15-20 miles per ride, for now - we may increase distance as we get more comfortable with doing this ride.

for more info - check the myspace or ask me here!

WAD Bikeway Doo-Dah Parade Entry
Author: kcleffer :: Posted: Thu Jul 03, 2008 10:51 am
The WAD Bikeway Association will have a "float" in tomorrow's Doo-Dah Parade. We are towing an SUV with bikes, dog sled style. Dragging the SUV kicking and screaming into the 21C. Come and check it out! Shocked

We have room for seven pullers. If anyone from Considerbiking.org is game, show up around noon at Park and Buttles, and we'll give you something to do. We'll be somewhere down on the line-up. We'll even put a "Considerbiking.org" banner on the car in your honor.

im bored at work, so i thought i would speak what is on my mind from last night....

first, i would like to say sorry to everyone that was in the group going down high by campus when i chased after that car. something just snapped when my girlfriend and i were making a very LEGAL left turn onto 17th and the ass in the red caviler almost hit us and yelled at us. im just at my whits end i guess. non the less, it really wasnt the best promotion of friendly biking....yeh, that is all

second. why is it so hard to get everyone to take up just one lane on a 2 lane road? i mean, its the middle of the night, in U.A. where cops already seem to not like our ride, traffic backing up and cars trying to pass in oncoming traffic lanes. i mean really, not only is this not safe for traffic around us, but think, if a car has to pass in oncoming lanes, that is such a HORRIBLE situation for us. really, an entire lane is plenty enough for us to all fit and still keep that conversation going.

lastly, why is it that we seemed to stop in the MIDDLE of intersections, busy ones non the less, last night, and in the past. i realize the entire situation and status of this ride, but even with 10 beers in me, i can still understand how bad of an idea this is.....

just my dollar fifty for the day.....

Transportation Survey and Urban Sprawl
Author: Rod Rudinger :: Posted: Thu Jun 19, 2008 1:51 pm
First of all, thank you for posting about the ODOT transportation meeting. Unfortunately, I didn't know about it in time or I would have attended. Thanks too to yethu for providing a link to the transportation survey.
One problem the survey did not address was urban sprawl.
Any cyclist who has attempted to bicycle in Southern Delaware County or in any area subject to recent building is aware of the congestion on the roads and the lack of connecting side streets or bikeways to allow safe transportation by bicycle or foot through those areas. The roads were built early in the 20th century to provide a means for farmers to get to town or their produce to market and were never intended to carry the load of traffic they are currently being asked to carry. Add to this the predilection of developers to build large, closed communities (One way in, one way out, no connecting side roads or connections to other communities), and you have a recipe for disaster. I would urge planners to plan for increased development in their road building plans, to plan for accommodating bicycles and pedestrians and mass transit in their plans, and requiring developers to provide transportation through their communities for bicycle and other traffic (for example, connecting streets between developments and connecting cul-de-sacs with connecting bikeways to provide an alternative to busy streets and arterial roads).
