Proposed Bicycle Parking Code for Columbus
Aug 25th, 2009 | By Jeff Stephens | Category: News
Thanks to all that have provided comments back to us at Consider Biking. We compiled your comments into ours…and submitted them to the city on Wednesday, July 1st. Columbus is proposing revisions to the parking section of its zoning code. And…pinch me…there are accommodations for bicycles. This would be the first ever, requirement that bicycle parking be required for most uses.
Consider Biking offered support of this legislation; it falls within the guidelines of support based on our Policy on Health, Energy & Environment. Of course, there were specific details regarding design specifications and other feedback we presented to enhance the proposed zoning code.
For more information, please follow this link to peruse the revised code, and associated documents. You might want to go directly to page 11-12 of this proposal for the specific language pertaining to bicycles. The City presented the proposal to the Transportation & Pedestrian Commission on August 13th, and will present them again to the Development Commission in late September. We expect this to reach City Coucnil shortly thereafter. Thanks for your reviewand comments; we’reexcited that the City is proposing policy that will enhance the bike friendliness, and hence, the livability of our community. Kudos!
