MORPC Approves Complete Streets Policy
Apr 14th, 2010 | By Ira Weiss | Category: NewsMORPC’s Policy Committee has approved MORPC’s Complete Streets policy which will replace the existing Routine Accommodations policy. MORPC is now the first large Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) in the nation to have a solid Complete Streets policy. Complete Streets are streets that are designed and operated to enable safe and comfortable access for all users, including motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, transit (bus and rail) and school bus riders, delivery and service personnel, freight haulers, and emergency responders. This includes people of all ages and abilities. What this means for central Ohio is that from now on, every roadway project that is paid by MORPC-federal funding through our transportation department has to be designed to provide accommodations for cars, bicyclists, pedestrians, transit users, and other users. More information can be found at MORPC’s website.
