Volunteers Needed: MORPC Pedestrian and Bicycle Counts, September 22, 2010

In order to collect current data regarding the usage and demand of pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, MORPC organizes 2 or 3 volunteer pedestrian and bicycle traffic counts each year. These counts are part of a nationally coordinated effort.

The next count day will be Wednesday, September 22, 2010.
There will be two counting shifts:
7:00-9:00 a.m. and  11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

It’s easy to sell your bikes, parts and accessories at the Ineeda Bike Swap at the BikeColumbus Festival, Friday, July 16, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. You can purchase a space at the Ineeda Bike Swap to sell your gear in our bicycle corral for only $10.00.

 

The Ineeda Bike Swap will be a lot of fun! It’s at the Columbus Crew Stadium, and the Crew has generously donated the use of their VIP tent for the swap. You and your bicycle gear will have a shady roof and plenty of space.

 

Of course, this is a great place to buy a new bike from one of our dealer vendors or find a used treasure from another cyclist selling her great old gear to make some room in her garage.

Saturday June 26: Street Party and Kids' Sprints

5:00 pm Kids Sprints registration – Grandview Avenue, in front of Grandview Theatre

5:30    Sprints, free and open to all kids 5-10; bring helmet, bike, and a parent's signature.  Parents, bring cameras!

6:00    Kids Sprints awards ceremony with helmet give-away on main stage, Grandview Avenue, across from Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream.  Thank you to Nationwide Children's Hospital and Members First Credit Union for sponsoring this adorable event!

6:15 to 12:00 live music and entertainment, concessions, as well as Art Hop and St. Christopher's Festival

11:30    Bike raffle winner to be drawn

 

Sunday June 27: Pro Cycling featuring world class men and women racers.  Food and beverages will also be on hand, as will a helmet check for kids, which includes a FREE helmet to participants, courtesy of Neighborhood Pride, the American League of Cyclists, and OSU Pediatrics! 

Noon to  6:  Start/Finish line is on Broadview Avenue, south of First.  Course map :  www.tourdegrandview.com.

Our Festival Steering Committee is still working out the details and we’ll announce scheduling details in the coming weeks. This much we know – We’ll host the Mayor’s Twilight Tour on Friday night to kick off the festival. And, we’ll launch a unique bike swap meet and experience venue to showcase all the trinkets and gear that we bicyclists live for! You’ll not want to miss this festive event geared toward all bicyclists! On Saturday, we’ll host the Steve Barbour Memorial Tour which will include everything from family-friendly urban rides to a 200k challenge into Hocking County and back.

And, on Sunday, August 1st, we’ll welcome the region’s top racers at the 7th annual Garrett Wonders Race in downtown Columbus.

We look forward to showcasing bicycling and our pedaling revolution in a new and exciting way in 2010. Stay tuned…..

Join Columbus Outdoor Pursuits and Jeff Stephens from local bicycle advocacy organization "Consider Biking" to learn about the pedaling revolution in Central Ohio. Consider Biking is a valuable partner of Columbus Outdoor Pursuits, advancing the planning, engineering, and legislative initiatives that increase the safety and opportunities for bicycling. The scope of their work spans encouraging people to use bicycles as active transportation, to supporting the Safe Routes to School program for our children.

Consider Biking is hosting the Bike Columbus festival in July 2010. COP is partnering in the Festival to manage the Steve Barbour Memorial Day Ride to increase the safety on our roads. Come learn more about the nationally recognized work of Consider Biking, and the Bike Columbus Festival.

You’ll be able to pick up race and event schedules, and speak directly with the organizers. You’ll be able to get answers from the experts and see the latest in equipment and apparel. See the impressive list of exhibitors here.  This is the first time an event of this nature and magnitude will take place in Columbus.
